If you have something sincere or serious to convey to someone and you cannot do it face-to-face it is much better to do so via a proper letter or note sent through the mail. And it should be hand-written:

Ditch the idea of wax seals or having to write in fountain pen. Those are affectations and a gentleman and a lady are never affected.
