Remember back to your childhood when life was simpler and it was easy to laugh. One constant of childhood, up until about 25 years ago was the image of a clown. There was clown wallpaper in children's rooms, clown themed bibs, clown dolls and clowns hosting kids' television programs. As one grew older one lost one's appreciation for clowns because of the mistaken belief that clowns were beings for small children and just plain dumb.
But the fact of the matter is that, while those clowns that one was presented were pretty much childish and silly, those clowns were clowns for kids. They weren't real clowns of the classic sense. Real clowning is serious business and real clowns used to reflect the stupidest, the meanest and most frightening elements of our being. Consider the great clowns of the past. Emmett Kelly portrayed a character named Weary Willie. He was a sad sack tramp clown trying, in his own way, to better himself and failing. Red Skelton created Freddie the Freeloader, a tramp clown always looking for an easy life without putting out the work to earn it. Lou Adler (for many years the image of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus) created a clown who was bossy and stupid.
And it is because of, in this writer's opinion, that the classic clown (not kid clowns, not evangelist clowns, not mimes {the exception being Jacques Tati in his M.Hulot series of films}) is so despised by so many adults today. How many times have you heard, or you yourself have said, "I hate clowns" or "I'm afraid of clowns"? Could it be that the open, nay, grotesquely enthusiastic satirization of the worst features of the human condition. Clowns are, in a sense, an ugly mirror. In other words, look into this mirror and see who ugly you are despite the way you paint yourself (the clown's make-up).
Classical clowning has taken a lot of abuse from modern society in the West because the West has lost its Christian identity. To be a Christian is to realize that one is, by nature, deeply flawed and that there is a way to salvation through Christ. In times past, when the West was nominally Christian it was the norm to occasionally examine oneself and find and contemplate one's flaws and indwelling sins. The clown, in a humorous way, brought attention to the flaws. The clown represented the irreducable element of rascality that infects us all and the clown showed that to the audience and showed the consequences for not dealing with those flaws.
But we have, since then, as a society, lost our sense of shame. And it is considered an insult to have one's sins or flaws pointed out either by example (the clown method) or by direct comment (trying telling a friend or co-worker that he is acting like an idiot and see what your dental bill will be the next day). Clowns are creepy and "scary" because they are us
Nowadays, we still have clowns, but they are reality show personalities or celebrities. But before going into that factor of the unrecognized and oddly accepted and compelling clown, let us look at the three classic types of clowns and their bare-faced off-spring.
The first is the white-faced clown. The white-face, as well as painting his face white, wears very little other make-up. He rarely wears a rubber nose, but often a pointed cap. The white-face is a serious clown. He is self serious. He is a clown who knows more than he really knows, smarter than he really is. He is bossy and over-bearing.
The second is the Auguste clown. While often bearing a base of white make-up, the Auguste clown is usually more polychromatic, often with a rubber nose, a fringe wig and a horn or noisemaker of some sort. The Auguste clown appears, at first glance, to be rather stupid and often is stupid. He's usually the underling in some way to the white-face and is often abused by the white-face. In his bumbling and stumbling and apparent idiocy he often comes out in a better position than the white-face while the white-face thinks that he, himself, has come out on top.
Thirdly is the tramp clown. The tramp clown is usually a loner. He is usually rather lazy. He is a bit of a con man in some ways, but he's also a sad sack. Sometimes he is victorious in his endeavors but just as often he fails.
To bring it into classical popular film culture we can look at the Three Stooges. Moe is the white-face. Larry and Joe (or Curly or Shemp) are Auguste clowns. Bud Abbott is the white-face. Lou Costello is the Auguste. Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton are tramp clowns.
Television and the celebrity culture has created a whole new variation of clowns without the consumer or the clowns realizing it. Consider such "reality" television programs as "Jersey Shore" or "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." The former features the "real" lives of a group of self-described "Guidos" with the most stereotypical New Jersey accents seeming to live lives of endless partying and coupling. The most famous of the group is a rather troll-like big-breasted young woman called Snookie who seems to live in a tanning booth when she isn't walking around looking like a desperate prostitute on Century Blvd when Hollywood Park isn't in season. The second program features three slut sisters, one at the moment married to a basketball player, living the lush life in Florida and experiencing "crisis" after "crisis". The women make stupid decisions, over-react to setbacks like to show off their zaftig figures.
Both programs are of the type that draw from their audiences reactions such as, "I wouldn't do THAT!", or "How could he do THAT!", or "How could somebody be so STUPID?" Well, the reason is because those people in those programs are doing the things that the viewer would do if given the opportunity. Or at least consider it. The only differences between Snookie or Kim and Lou Adler are that Snookie and Kim wear a different type of make-up and that the viewer, because neither Snookie nor Kim are in clown make-up, does not see themselves in Snookie or Kim in the way they saw themselves in Lou Adler. The audience also, because the programs are billed as "reality" shows, thinks that it is watching a person's real life, when, in fact, it is watching a performance that the performers do not realize is a performance. The clown is performing without the fourth wall of the stage, which makes the performance more personal for the viewer. The "reality" "Star" is in a play of his or her own making and there is a separation between the viewer and the performer that the viewer find comfortable because he/she is not directly addressed with his/her flaws.
The antics of Lindsey Lohan and Mel Gibson are other examples of the contemporary clown. We watch Lindsey on her descent towards turning tricks on Sunset Blvd and click our tongues and wonder how she could, given all the advantages of her life, be so damn stupid and delusional. But we refuse to see that she is, in a sense, a sin eater. We look at her as a young woman on her way down without realizing that she embodies by her behavior the worst qualities of all of us. And that is the point. We refuse to see because she, because of her fame and wealth, is so far away from most of us that we really don't care. She's a side show. A geek of sorts. But since she's not wearing a rubber nose we can always say something like, "Well, that's the way the rich live. They have too much money and they get to get away with the things I would if I had the money." Lindsey, despite her lack of rubber nose, is seen as a much different creature than the Auguste at the one tent circus that came through your town this summer. The viewer identifies less with Lindsey than he/she does with a circus clown.
Mel Gibson is the celebrity white-face clown. Self-involved, self-serious, a control freak. His rants against his Russian slut ex-girlfriend which have been aired for the past few weeks are comical. He started out the relationship reflecting the sin of lust and, once the heat of lust died out and the arrival of a bastard child and money became involved, he exhibited the sins of pride, anger and drunkeness. His performance reflects the perfect white-face attitude -- "I'm right. You're wrong. How dare you oppose me." The Russian slut ex-girlfriend played the Auguste clown perfectly. She has, so far, come out on top despite the fact that she has shown herself to be a slut and a crook. We laugh and act shocked at Gibson's rants, but we are refusing to face the fact that he is acting out the thoughts that all of us would have if we were in a similar situation. And know this, we are all a lot closer to finding ourselves in a variation of Gibson's problem than we'd like to admit.
This writer, being of a rather Victorian attitude, wishes that clowns were restricted to the circus, the Punch and Judy Show or the theater where the clowns are honest clowns and not celebrities or "reality" "stars". At least in the circus or theater the clown whacks one across the face with an inflated pig's bladder to make one realize that the real clown is YOU and ME. The circus clown is the homunculus that entertains us while throwing darts at us. The Celebrity and the "Reality Star" are like performing dogs that crap and copulate while they are supposed to be walking tight-ropes. They are jokes, but we refuse to realize the the joke is not only on us. The joke is us.
And if the reader should wonder what clowns we here at the Manor favour, the answer is Rosencrans and Guildenstern.
And, if the reader should maintain that politicians are clowns, your faithful correspondent can only reply that politicians are not clowns. Politicians are buffoons. They do not have the self awareness of clowns.

The Sluttification of Music
It may be due to the age of your faithful correspondent, but this writer has felt for the past twenty years that many popular female singers have confused being a slut with being smokey, erotic or sexy.
When we here at the Manor were callow youths the average "girl" singer in rock music, such as Linda Ronstadt or Janet Joplin, were considered rather outre' by appearing on stage wearing hot pants while they either stood before, or held, a microphone. There were no gyrations, no dry-humping the mike stand, no tit flashing.
When the creature now known as Madonna appeared on the scene all that changed. That crazy chick, in such of popularity and the big buck, realized that she could make a lot of money and get a lot of popularity by portraying herself as the equivalent of the high school "easy girl". In other words, she gave the idea that she's lay down and lift her dress for you if you told her that you loved her -- or even liked her-- as long as you didn't call her a slut. And she'd do the same thing for any guy who made the same tacit agreement.
Since that time when Madonna was singing "Like A Virgin" she has given birth to a whole lot of musical children ranging from Britney Spears to Lady Gaga to Katy Perry to Miley Cyrus. One wonders when the whole chain of nonsense will stop. A tit flash? A beaver shot on stage? Perhaps a little fellatio on stage?
And the whole wonder is that from Madonna on the result has not been the expression of love, desire or longing. In fact, they have not even been sexy or erotic. They have been expressions of the most base animal instincts akin to watching a bull and cow mating in a pasture.
Why is it that the performances of Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney, Julie London, Jane Monheit and Diane Krall, among a few others, reflect a more sexy or erotic sense than to the current crop of slut singers? None of them dress(ed) like cheap whores, none of them dance(ed) like drunken pole dancers, and all of them sang (or sing) doing nothing more than standing or sitting in front of microphones.
Here's a Tom Waits' song sung by Diane Krall that has nothing to do with love or sex. And yet it expresses a sense of longing that Madonna and her musical offspring have shown themselves unable to express:

A Bit o' Dis an' a Bit o' Dat, Bruddas an' Wahines
The always thoughtful and interesting thinker, Sir Mike of Whittier, sent this writer a file that showed the actual stoning of a young woman in some Islamic country. The young woman, and she was a young woman -- not more than eighteen -- was condemned to stoning by the local sharia court for the crime of refusing to marry a man some 21/2 to 3 times older than she.
Needless to say, your faithful correspondent was repulsed by the video. He was repulsed for two reasons. The first reason is because the stoning took place at all. The second was because he was curious enough to actually watch it from beginning to end. It was not a nice thing to watch. It was cruel, disgusting and inhuman; especially since those taking part in the stoning were so enthusiastic in the hurling of rocks and cinderblocks. It was the type of execution that makes the gas chamber, the electric chair, hanging or the firing squad look merciful in comparison. It was an example of mass hysteria directed toward a a girl with the participants recording the incident on their cell phones.
And that goes to show the sickness of the whole incident. Men who were able to access the world through their computers and cells phones were participating in an action that is pre-medieval . In fact pre- Christian. And those Jews who claim to know something about their history claim that the Mosaic injunction to stone adulterers has never been observed among the Tribe. Giving Orcs such tools as cell phones and computers is akin to giving an infant a Zippo lighter. No only is there the possibility that said infant will burn himself; the brat may burn down your house.
For those who wish to see a sanitized version of the stoning, there is this. Note that Wolfe Blitzer is not outraged at the crime. But he is a professional and an apologist for little brown babies who he feels are too damn stupid to be brought into some semblance of civilized behaviour. And remember that the Kurds are supposed to be the "good guys" in Iraq and Iran:

For those readers of this blog who read fiction, this writer would suggest that the reader buy Andrew Klavan's Empire of Lies. The books has just come out in mass-market paperback and is also available for the Amazon Kindle.
The novel is NOT politically correct. It is also NOT the usual political/terrorist thriller. Mr. Klavan has taken a Christian man with a past of which he is ashamed and put him into a situation in which he is tempted, performs acts for which he is ashamed, and a man who is willing to examine himself. It is a novel that combines the thriller genre with the type of introspection that one usually finds in the "art" silk stocking writer like John Cheever or John Updike. And Klavan has a wicked sense of humor, as is evinced by this clip:
YouTube - The World According to Andrew Klavan
Mel Gibson has shown himself, over the past couple of years to be a bit of a lout. Several years ago he got heat for telling am Los Angeles Sheriff's deputy (who was a Jew) that he could smell a Jew (which, apparently he could because he seems to have found the only Jewish deputy sheriff on the force since Sherman Block retired) and calling a female deputy "Sugar-tits."
Gibson was drunk at the time, which is no excuse for bad behaviour. After all, William Faulkner was a big binge drinker and never bothered anyone while he was drinking off his latest novel.
Now Mr. Gibson is getting grief for some things that his paramour, mother of his youngest child and aide in the wrecking of his marriage, recorded him saying. Admittedly, Mr. Gibson spoke like a lout and asshat. He called the woman a whore, a slut, a tart. He used the words "nigger" and "wetback", he threatened to burn down her dwelling. The woman claims that he brought physical violence upon her by punching her in the mug and knocking out a tooth veneer.
This writer has no sympathy for Mr. Gibson in his rant. No man should speak to any woman in the way that he did. But Mr. Gibson was standing forth in a private conversation. This writer knows of cases in which the wife says such things as, "I wish you were dead. I hope you die" to her husband. Lovers and married people often say very cruel things to one another; things that would make them join the French Foreign Legion to get away from those remarks if they were publicized at their workplace, church or country club.
But this writer has to ask the question of why, exactly, was the woman recording the conversations or rant? And why did the woman not call the cops once she was punched in the face by Mr. Gibson? Could it be that she is out for a bit of the long green? After all, she's a Russian and Russians who have come to the US since the "end" of the Cold War have shown themselves to be schemers, wide boys and crooks.
This reader is not giving Mr. Gibson a pass on his bad bevhaviour. He has, in the past claimed to be a devout Catholic, and this writer expects him to behave like a believing and devout Catholic. His language has been inappropriate, but nothing more. He's shown himself to be an asshat, but he does have the right to say to his cumbucket what he wants as long as he doesn't punch her lights out.
And having seen his "girlfriend" this writer wonders why Mr. Gibson would have severed his marriage vows for the plastic, siliconed "hottie." Apparently, a youth spent in Australia has ruined this idiot. He should have spent more time time downing Foster's lager and less time thinking about the state of his penis.

Legally Forced Charity
Do you, the reader, contribute to charities of one sort or another? By contribute, this writer means voluntarily contribute.
We here at the Manor regularly contribute to the Salvation Army, as well as other religious charities that provide assistance to the poor and/or down-trodden throughout the United States and the world. Our Lord tells us to provide assistance to the widow and the orphan.
But those in power in the United States government have long decided that no how much you give, of your own free will, to the needy you should give more. This writer is not referring to unemployment benefits which the newly unemployed have contributed to while they were employed. This writer is referring to welfare, both state and local as well as national, food stamps, free health care and free higher education.
We have been forced to give to charities (government operated charities, which is the most inefficient form) that support in high style, not only illegal aliens, but people who are the third and fourth generation of welfare recipients.
The government is considering the idea that high speed Internet connection is a "right" and will probably soon subsidize said Internet connections to the "poor". Through the use of EBT cards in California the working man and woman is forced to subsidize the gambling habits and drinking habits of the "poor."
Some years ago an man in Africa was asked why he wanted to immigrate to the US. His reply was, "I want to live in a country where the poor people are fat."
We are a long way from the East Side of London in the 1880s or Hell's Kitchen in the 1890s. No body is starving in the streets. In fact, the average resident of Section 8 housing in the US is living in a better, and better wired structure than we are here at the Manor. We have been conservative with our finances, we have worked, we have been responsible. And we have, as well as we have been able, been charitable. And the state and national governments have punished us by denying us our hard earned cash so that a person who has never worked in his or her life is able to buy a 42 inch flat screen television and a 12 pack of Old Milwaukee daily.
It's enough to gag a maggot.

We Are Being Governed By Children and Judged By Liars

This weekend we celebrate our separation from Great Britain and the founding of our dear nation. It behooves us all to re-read the Declaration of Independence and appreciate the wisdom of out founding fathers and mourn the rejection of their wisdom by the legal and political elites of the present-day United States.
A citizen's required reading for July 4th: The Declaration of Independence (with music) | Top of the Ticket | Los Angeles Times
This week there were hearings in the United States Senate concerning the confirmation of Elaine Kagan for a seat on the United States Supreme Court. The hearings were troubling in many ways.
First of all, Ms. Kagan, who has no experience as a judge, has shown herself unable to give a straight answer to many questions addressed to her. She was not even willing to claim the authorship of a document that was written during her tenure in the White House despite the fact that the document was written in her handwriting. She would only say that it was her handwriting on the document, not that she actually wrote it. There are only three possibilities that arise from her answer: she wrote it, she was taking dictation or the document was a forgery. The latter two options are unlikely, so one can only assume that she wrote the document and was too embarrassed to admit that she wrote it.
Ms. Kagan, just a few days before the Glorious Fourth, stated that she does not feel that the Declaration of Independence is a Prologue to the Constitution and, thus, carries the same weight as the Constitution in the interpretation of the legality of issues coming before the court. The reader may ask himself what is the point of the founders to have enumerated the many arguments against the Crown instead of just telling Geo III to get stuffed if they did not intend, upon the founding of the nation, they did not intend to correct those insults to freedom that Great Britain perpetrated upon the Americans.
The Democrats (known here at the Manor as the Evil Party) have greeted Kagan during the hearings as the belle of the ball. The Republicans (known at the Manor as the Stupid Party) have been unwilling to pose hard questions. Kagan herself once wrote that the abusive hearings when Robert Bork was nominated to the Supreme Court were to be considered a model for future hearings. One can only suppose that she (and the Evil and the Stupid) feel that an exception should be made in her case.
The following clip shows absolute childishness of some members of the Senate. The very fact that this Senator was not hooted down by her fellow Senators just goes to show that the Senate is no longer the thinking body that it once was:
Breitbart.tv » Girl Talk! Klobuchar to Kagan: Let’s Talk ‘Twilight’
This writer would urge the reader to read not only the Declaration of Independence, but also the Constitution as we celebrate the true founding of this great nation. And as the reader peruses the documents this writer asks the following question:
Was there anything in either document that was really opaque or unclear despite the older form of English?
If one grew up reading the King James Bible (or in the case of Roman Catholics, the Douy-Reims Bible), the language in both documents is dead simple and easily understood.
There are people, mostly Constitutional lawyers who stand to make a buck, who claim that the Constitution is unclear and fuzzy. These same lawyers are men and women who see themselves as high priests of Constitutional interpretation in the same way that the Gnostics saw things in the Holy Writ that are not there.
Americans should read the Constitution in the same way that Fundamentalists and Evangelicals read the Bible. The plain reading of the Bible and the Constitution is the right reading. There are metaphors in the Bible, but they are limited to the Poetic books. Everything is made as a clear and definite statement. There are no metaphors in either the Declaration nor the Constitution. Our founders wrote what they meant and they meant what they wrote, and until a mentally benighted group has the desire and power to write a new constitution the branches of government have no write to "interpret" our founding documents. Despite the desires of some, the government of the United States is not a priesthood performing mystical rites and writing quasi-theological tomes to maintain the state of the nation.
Our first President stated that government was like fire; a useful tool and fearsome master. Our current president has decided to use the government as a master. He is a man who is standing on the shoulders of giants and who has decided to urinate on their heads in his march toward a nation of subjects living at the whims of the government instead of a nation of free citizens.
Let us, on this day dedicated to the remembrance of those great men. so much more wise than we pygmies, remember that we are a nation of free men and women and that the government is an ugly tool that is supposed to serve us and not we it.
We are a free and sovereign nation. We are not at the beck and call of the "world" or the United Nations.

If our American leaders had any damn sense at all (which they do not have) they'd concentrate more on an alliance with India in the war against the Orcs for the simple reason that India is a more Western nation than Pakistan, is less swayed by the Orcs, and has English as one of its official languages.

If our American leaders had any damn sense at all (which they do not have) they'd concentrate more on an alliance with India in the war against the Orcs for the simple reason that India is a more Western nation than Pakistan, is less swayed by the Orcs, and has English as one of its official languages.

A Little Reading and a Little More Watching

We here at the Bloody Nib Manor have been watching with interest the developments of the proposed building of a mosque right hard next to Ground Zero in New York. And we have been appalled by the city fathers deigning to grant permission for the building of what the Mohammedans plan to call the Cordoba Center (for those who do not know their history, Corboda, Spain, was the center of Mohammedanism in Spain up until the Spanish monarchs finally came to their sense and forced the Mohammedists to leave the area. It was also the site of the largest mosque in Spain, which was a precursor for the planned Islamization of Europe).
Needless to say, the ever-lovely Lady Nib and this writer wonder what the government of New York City was thinking when they decided to allow the building of the mosque. We can only assume that the drones running New York feared being called "racists" or "ant-Muslim" more than they feared the wrath of New Yorkers and the nation as a whole. The bureaucrat considers the masses as an inconvenient burden, while the vocal minority as a threat. Instead of growing a thick-skin the bureaucrat caters to those they consider "little brown babies." In other words, the public opinion has to learn to suck up insults while the minority is so frail and ignorant that they have to be indulged until it grows up. The problem is that the "little brown baby" never grows up as long as it's treated as a baby.
In the Middle East Christians have long learned that giving ground to the Mohammedans in the quest of peace is a losing proposition. Our various governments (Federal, state and local) have all, apparently, been reading from the Neville Chamberlain playbook -- waving a paper crying "Peace in our time" while the enemy is building bombs that will be dropped in month's time.
Here's an article about an Egyptian Copt priest who has long been speaking against that nonsense called Islam, and who has been doing so so effectively that millions of Mohammedans every year wise up and convert to Christianity. And the Islamic "scholars", unable to answer his criticisms of Islam, don't even try to argue with him. They try to ignore him:

Here are two videos concerning the building of the Cordoba Center that may be of interest:

And finally, the reader (being as all Bloody Nib readers are well informed on current matters) may be aware that Helen Thomas, the ancient White House correspondent who is suspected of personally knowing Andrew Jackson, showed herself to be the crazy aunt in the attic. She's made a half hearted apology and explanation, but it sounds like the young man discovered naked in bed with a girl and wearing panties on his head by the girl's father --- "We were only playing Parcheesi and our clothes suddenly flew off."
Breitbart.tv » ‘Really Disgusting’: Rabbi Who Interviewed Helen Thomas Says ‘It’s Time’ for Her to Go
And finally, as trivial as it may seem, this writer misses Julie Bandaras on Fox News. Lovely voice, lovely black hair and lovely black eyes. And a consummate professional. This writer wishes her all good things in her new role as a mother and hopes that she soon returns to Fox.

Memorial Day and the Orcs
This Memorial Day this writer urges the reader to remember and honor those who have laid down their lives to maintain our freedoms.
This writer's father was a Marine during World War Two, and his uncle was a soldier during World War Two. His great uncle was killed in France during World War One, and his great-great grandfather was a veteran of the Civil War.
It takes blood to maintain freedom.
And, despite our perceptions, it still takes blood to maintain freedom:

Thinking Noo Yawkers have set themselves against the building of a mosque at the site of the World Trade Center. This writer has, in the past, never had much use for New Yorkers, but let us hope that they will hold their position and that, if the city council decides to let this insult go through, they pour sand into the crankcases of the bulldozers and cranes that are used to build the evil edifice:

A couple o' kines o' da kine
Back in the days of the Cold War there was a saying that went something like this:"You may not be interested in Communism, but the Communists are interested in you."
We can update the saying to, " You may not be interested in Islam, but Islam is interested in you."
Be aware that the Orcs are planning to build a mosque/Islamic Center right hard up against the former sight of the Twin Towers in New York. Their flaks and spokesmen say that the building is intended to be an expression of "peace and harmony." Be assured that they are trying to lull the American public into warm and fuzzy feelings towards Mohammedanism while the Orcs attempt to change the American Democratic Republic into a dhimmi state of the Caliphate. It may sound racist or intolerant, but one cannot trust any Muslim. Their Koran states repeatedly that they have no requirement to be truthful towards kafirs. And if you are reading this, you are a kafir. And if, by chance, you are a Muslim reading this, this writer has only one thing to say: "Wise up and dump that Mohammad nonsense and get the real deal by reading the New Testament."
Mark Steyn, as well as being a prolific writer, is a writer who always demands some thought.
Here he takes on the nonsense of The One and his factota:

A Stew o' Stuff
The above cartoon was drawn by an unknown artist as part of the Draw a Cartoon Mohammad Day observance this past week. We, here at Bloody Nib Manor, are looking forward to the day when this cartoon will be printed on tee-shirts, bike bags and coffee mugs. Our "friends" at CAIR and the Muslim Students' Association may object to the cartoon, but to be crude (and to the point), Screw 'em. They came here to live with us. We didn't go to live with them.Speaking of which, things are not so good for Christians living in Egypt. In fact, the Copts, who have a history in Egypt going back seven centuries prior to the advent of Mohammedanism, have decided that their burden as Dhimmis in the nation has gotten so burdensome that they, and their expatriate co-religionists, are actually protesting the treatment of Christians and Christian Copts in Egypt:
This writer suggests that we, as Christians and/or Westerners, boycott Muslims in this country. Muslims have nothing to offer us. In fact, they act as leeches feeding upon our work, ethics, morals, tolerance and freedoms. They live here on the interest that the Protestant (and later European Roman Catholic and Jewish) ethos created while trying to destroy that ethos along with their atheist and liberal cohorts:
Coptic Christians Voicing Frustration With White House As Persecution Widens in Egypt - May 22, 2010 - The New York Sun
This writer, from Great Britain, seems to have finally woken up to the double standard that the liberal and politically correct crowd have created and try their best to maintain:
While we wouldn't dare say 'boo' to a Muslim here, Christians are persecuted in a Muslim country – Telegraph Blogs
The mainstream media's and liberal platoons have been, for some while, cutting excuses for the bad behaviour of Mohammedans.
Your faithful correspondent has long held to the position that making excuse for the bad behaviour of minorities is a form of racism. The liberal position is the "little brown babies" argument. In other words, the minority is so ignorant and so un-evolved that it really can not be expected to understand right from wrong. At the same time the liberal and sob sister is outraged because his or her Yorkshire Terrier does not naturally understand that it's not the right thing to crap on the heirloom Persian rug.

Muslims Are Vile and Stupid
This week Muslims in Sweden attacked one of the artists who drew the famed Motoon cartoons. They not only attacked him personally, but they also attempted to set fire to his house.
When was the last time you heard of a Christian group trying to pull off the same gag?
Muslims are vile and awfully ignorant.

Men's Health
Have you, the reader, ever had the misfortune of visiting the magazine stand at the local supermarket and, while looking for the latest copy of Sports Afield or Saga, come across a publication called Men's Health? And have you ever had the misfortune of picking up said publication and leafing through it?
This writer, because of forces beyond his control, has been forced to look through several issues of Men's Health and has come to the conclusion that, despite its title, the magazine is really about gay men's fashion and style. There are a few articles concerning health and heterosexual relations, but much of the magazine is taken up with photographs of men that are intended to appeal to gay men. i.e. muscular men wearing whitey tighties with their crotches aimed at the camera or men of somewhat dubious sexuality wearing clothes that no regular straight man would wear.
The magazine seems to be obsessed with the idea of muscularity as an appearance instead of a tool. In the past men wanted strength that did something instead of looked like something. This writer remembers a time when it was more impressive for a man to bend a length of rebar in his bare hands than it was for him to look like a muscular freak. When this writer was young the obsession for muscles for appearance was considered freakish. No man wanted a pot belly, but few men aspired to a six pack. Strength was a function. Not an appearance.
Men's Health magazine is a kind of Cosmopolitan magazine for gay men. Real men (and this writer holds to the idea that real men are men who like women and are not homosexual) want to look at attractive women and not men. Real men want to know how to get from one day to the next instead of what type of tea to drink.
Back in the day when your faithful correspondent was a young man and a boy the traditional men's interest magazines were Esquire, Sports Afield, Hot Rod and Playboy. Then the ads were directed towards products such as Edgewood pipe tobacco,Remington shotguns, Hooker Headers and Old Spice after shave -- all featuring photos of young lovely women wearing not much instead of some crotch shot of a half boy/ half girl.
Times have changed. And not for the better.

Your faithful correspondent wishes to thank his cousin, Duke, for his filling in on this space last week. To be truthful, this writer was unable to understand a word Duke wrote, but it must have made some sort of sense. And the Duke makes a mean moco loco. Shaka, bra! Bust da mout'.

A Little Sense
As those in the know are aware, Nib Manor is in California. And California is in a deep, deep hole that goes beyond finances. The pit that is the state is the result of monetary, cultural and social decay.
The legislators and the governor of the state, in the constant pursuit of votes so that they don't actually have to work for a living, have ignored the state's problems. In fact, whores that they are, they have pandered to those who are bringing down the state.
Victor Davis Hanson, a much more intelligent and better educated man than this writer, sees the problem with the state, and almost despairs:
Works and Days » The Remains of a California Day
The ever lovely Lady Nib, back in the day, was a Joni Mitchell fan. She says that she liked the way Ms Mitchell "rocked out." Your faithful correspondent, while not a fan of Ms Mitchell, appreciated her singing and wordplay.
Here is an article in which Ms Mitchell states what she thought was the moment was when popular music declined. And this writer cannot help but agree:

When Life Made Sense
As regular readers of this blog are well aware, the ever lovely Lady Nib and I are Christians of what, in Great Britain, used to be known as of the Non-Conformist sort. In other words, Protestants, but not Anglicans.
Recently this writer came across a bit of film on YouTube showing General William Booth's (the founder of the Salvation Army) funeral procession through the streets of London in 1912.
It surprised this writer that the crowd lining the streets was as large as it was. And he compared it to the funeral procession for Princess Diana and found something troubling.
General Booth was a private man who, in a sense, changed the world. Princess Diana was a royal who was the object of gossip and mindless adoration by the same people who look to Madonna for their political and social opinions.
General Booth's funeral was not sponsered by the government. Princess Diana's was sponsered by the state.
The turn out for General Booth's funeral was the result of love and respect by the populace. For Princess Diana the turn out was excited by curiousity and the desire to attend an event.
Our society has become one addicted to celebrity instead of true goodness and greatness.
Here is the link to General Booth's funeral procession. Ask yourself as you watch it if such a turn out would be matched by any contemporary Christian leader:

The End
Today it appears that the House of Representatives have approved what is commonly called Obamacare.
Beginning today the United States citizen will be required to pay insurance for the very act of breathing.
Today the Congress, through trickery and bribery, have violated the United States Constitution.
Today the American Republic ended and was replaced by the American Diktat.
We find ourselves being ruled by a bunch of mobsters.
Either get used to it or fight against it at election time.

A Long Letter That We Can Learn From
Despite the fact that the United States is a more free society and nation than is the United Kingdom, the Brits seem to have the freedom to publicly make statements that would get a Yank damned by the media.
Here is one that we all should read, ponder and repeat:
Gates of Vienna: Ethnically Cleansing the English
By the way, in England there is an organization called the English Defense League that stands up for traditional English values. The organization is sneered at by the same class of people who embraced Hitler during the 30s, but is not unpopular with the average Brit of whatever race. If an American Defense League were to be created one can be sure that the media would try to paint the organization as a racist militia. Look at how the media regards the Tea Party Movement.

Health Care? Ferggit!
Your faithful correspondent is not a person who files away references to data, so he hope that the reader will forgive him for not providing the sources to the following information. The information may very well be incorrect, so take it with a grain of salt,
A Senator stated this week that 75 people died per day due to the lack of medical insurance. That results in a yearly total of 27,375 deaths per year.
Meanwhile, another study using reports from doctors (in other words, self reported and not by an objective body which would probably result in a higher number) stated that annually there were 35,000 deaths in the United States that resulted from incorrect medical care.
In other words, one has a better chance of taking another breath by not having medical insurance than going to a doctor for treatment.

Understanding the Constitution
Our Great Leader and his minions are bound and determined to saddle the population with some sort of government health care scheme despite the fact that most polls and thinking people are dead-set against the opening of such a jar of snakes. And in their insistence to do "what is best for the American people" they are using every procedural trick in the book to avoid having an honest debate and congressional vote on the matter. The President and the liberal Democrats are basically playing the same "I'll hold my breath until I turn blue" gag that a three year old child plays when he isn't given the ice cream cone that he has been denied.
They want this thing even though they really do not know what is on the bill that is one the table. This writer would like to sell them some real estate, a couple of cars and sign them up for a few investments with the argument of, "Just sign on the dotted line. We'll work out the details later."
But one aspect of the proposed health care bill, indeed, the very idea of a national health care scheme, is the constitutionality of such a thing.
Walter Williams has taken the time and trouble to address the matter:
A MINORITY VIEW
This writer would posit that the essay be required reading for every member of Congress except for the fact that most members of Congress, both in the Senate and the House of Representatives, have less understanding of the Constitution than a seventh grade child has of the Hypostatic Union.

The following is the text of a speech by Mr. Singh, a Sikh living in England. Please note that Mr. Singh identifies himself as an Englishman -- not an Anglo-Indian. Would it be that our grumbling minorities here in the US would do the same:

Gentlemen Will Out
This writer, while being a deeply flawed man -- perhaps the most deeply flawed of men -- has always tried to be a gentleman. This has been due to the influence of the late Baron Nib and the still living Baroness Nib.
It was assumed that the actions of those of a lesser moral or legal deign would eventually show themselves to be, by nature, scoundrels or rascals, while those of a higher status (in mein, if not not in finances) would always show themselves to be ladies and gentlemen by their word and action.

What the Hell?
This past week the odious Los Angeles Time published a piece by one of its sport writer questioning the wisdom of Lindsey Vonn posing for Sports Illustrated in a bikini and whether such photos would advance the cause of slalom skiing in the US.
In the article the man has shown himself to be an idiot.
Professional athletics personalities go into professional athletics for two reasons -- to receive praise and to make money. It is not about being the best, despite what they say. Otherwise they would have careers as engineers, accountants or janitors who participated in sports as a hobby.
Personalities such as Lindsey Vonn and Danica Patrick are merely making extra money and fame from their physical attributes in fields where men are dominant. Their appealing to their physiques are no more lessening to them as are actresses showing up at the Golden Globe Awards showing their gold globes.
What's the difference between the two? At least the women athletes have put in the work to get their figures instead of paying plastic surgeons.

Golfin'
We here at Nib Manor do not pay much attention to professional athletics, or as they are popularly known, professional sports. We much prefer sports of the amateur variety except for baseball. And truth to tell, we would prefer amateur baseball to the MLB if there were an organized amateur baseball league.
But, life being what it is, we have not been able to avoid the Tiger Woods apology for his moral transgressions. By moral transgressions is meant repeated infidelity to his wife.
Mr. Woods' mea culpa seemed to be a pretty much standard statement of the type written by lawyers and public relations people. Whether or not he was sincere in his statement remains to be seen.
But keep in mind that Mr. Woods, being a pro golfer, will be held up from here on to such examples as Bobby Jones and the British Triumvirate.
Only God knows the sincerity of his statement. And we, here at the Manor, hope that he was being sincere for the sake of his family.
On the other hand, the statement of one of his former mistress (actually, mistress is too nice a word; she was a shack up at the best; no Nell Gwynne here), Jocelyn James (along with her media-whore lawyer Gloria Allred), was surreal for the simple fact that a woman who was a "mistress" would expect her "lover" to be faithful to her instead of his wife or reputation. In other words, she seems to expect a man who cheated with her not to "cheat" on her. And did the reader notice, if the reader saw the video of Ms James' statement on television, that Miss James had shorn her locks to something akin to a bob from long auburn locks? Any man who married a woman while she was wearing long hair can attest that a short hairdo means that the marriage has moved from (in the wife's opinion) from a relationship of companionship and sex to one of only companionship. Miss. James, in her short haircut, is trying to say that her relationship with Woods was more mental than physical. Methinks I see a book coming out by Miss James in about three months.
What the hell has happened to the world?
But, life being what it is, we have not been able to avoid the Tiger Woods apology for his moral transgressions. By moral transgressions is meant repeated infidelity to his wife.
Mr. Woods' mea culpa seemed to be a pretty much standard statement of the type written by lawyers and public relations people. Whether or not he was sincere in his statement remains to be seen.

A Good Gotcha
"The French, they are a funny race,
"They fight with their feet and **** with their face."
The above doggerel was popular when this writer was a young lad, and it was meant to express that the French were different than the rest of us; us meaning members of the Anglosphere.
The French, whether right or wrong, seem to value their self-proclaimed "intellectuals" and "philosophers." Consider the fact that the idiotic natterings of Sartre and DeBouvavier were regarded by the average French opinion maker as Gospel, or the fact that a recent foreign minister was appointed to the office because he was a "philosopher" and "poet."
The French, as a nation, seem to have an aversion toward thinkers who are hard-headed realists, and the result is nightly car burnings in Paris and just plain silliness like Johnny Halliday.
In this writer's opinion, the best public thinker in France over the last twenty years has been Brigitte Bardot, who has been repeatedly found guilty of "insulting Islam" for her stance of standing for traditional French culture and preferring hearing church bells on a Sunday morn instead of the caterwauling from a minaret on a Friday afternoon.
Well, this week a French "philosopher" was shown to be a bit of a poseur and dope:
The Associated Press: French philosopher Bernard-Henri Levy duped
Life can be sweet.

We're Trying to Help This Nation?
If the memory of this writer is correct, the country of Afghanistan has always been a basket-case. It have been, and may be, a great place to live if one were an Afghan, but as a real nation deserving the respect of the world it's a loser. It has been less than a nation or country than a geographical area populated by clans of the Hatfield-McCoy type.
Your faithful correspondent seems to remember that before the Russians invaded Afghanistan the president was assassinated in the parliamentary chamber by the member of a rival clan. The result was the crumbling of the country to the point that the USSR saw what they thought was an area of easy pickings. No one can explain what good thing that the Russians saw there, but they invested money and blood to try to get it. And they found that they were not fighting one nation, but a group of tribes.
The result of the Russian adventure in Afghanistan was the Taliban, which was created and supported by the Pakistani intelligence service.
The Taliban proved themselves to be despots worse than the previous regime by instituting the strictest versions of Sharia law, And even then they could barely rule the country.
When the US became involved in Afghanistan it seemed to have made the mistake that Afghanistan was a reasonable and somewhat united country. Instead it found that Afghanistan is divided and that the Afghanis are terribly corrupt. Instead of standing for values or ideas, they can often be bought. And it seems that Afghanis do not see the world the same way that the West does.

Yodeling and Drinking Beer

Sometimes a hat is known by name but defies description due to the fact that the said hat is off several slightly different shapes.
An example would be the Tyrolean, or Alpine, hat.
The hats on both the left and right are Tyrolean hats, but the reader can see that there are slightly differences, mostly having to do the shaping of the brim and the dimpling of the crown. A third form of the hat, not shown, has a crease along the top of the crown along with two dimples in the front area.
Tyrolean hats were traditionally worn in the Alpine areas of Germany, Austria, Italy and France. In fact, to this day the dress uniforms of the French and Italian Alpine troops of their respective army include Tyrolean hats complete with feathers instead of the usual chamois brush as shown on the hat to the right.
It is not unusual to see Tyrolean hats covered with decorative pins. Originally each pin represented an Alpine mountain that the wearer had climbed. Nowadays the pins often represent towns visited or events attended. And the traditional Tyrolean hat was worn with a chamois brush ornament. These run from the size of large artist's sable brushes to the size of large shaving brushes.
The Tyrolean hat is a head warming hat. The brim is so small that it is useless for shading one from the sun.
One occasionally sees a form of Tyrolean hat worn by East coast businessmen. These are usually dark green of a finer felt than the traditional hat, have the three or four cord type hat band and usually have a small red feather.
The Tyrolean hat is a good hat for head warming and for style. It is not as heavy or serious in appearance than are the fedora, the bowler or the homburg. It is a somewhat more light-hearted and sporty hat and should appeal to those beginning hat wearers weaning themselves off the baseball hat.

Men In Hats

Here we have two images of the bowler/derby hat.
For those of a younger age the bowler may be identified with Charlie Chaplin, or Laurel and Hardy. Graybeards, while including the comedians in the derby wearing fellowship, primarily associate the bowler with the toff, such as John Steed of the Avengers, or with thugs, such as the turn of the century criminal gang known as the Plug-Uglies.
One rarely sees derbies worn nowadays except in Great Britain among the moneyed or in Bolivia among everyone. The Bolivians picked up the bowler habit from British railway workers back in the 1920s and have never given it up.
The bowler was originally developed as a sort of helmet for horsemen and game-keepers, and is still worn among the horsey set. It is also the hat the leveled the field, hat-wise, among the classes in England. Just a few years after the bowler was invented for the wealthy it was being worn by the poor and working class in London, and the wealthy. Before the bowler the wealthy wore high hats and the poor and working men wore caps or slouch hats. But, of course, it's not always the hat that one wears that defines the man, but the way the man wears the hat.
Who should wear a derby? Why not go with tradition? The toff, the villain, the jester and the horse rider. And the Bolivian.

Ready for a Little Brother?
As we are all aware by now, there was, this past Tuesday, a terrible earthquake in Haiti that resulted in many deaths (no one knows as of this date the total toll despite what the news channels claim) and horrible devastation.
Only the most heartless would not feel pity for the Haitians. And the nations of the world, and the United States, have responded to help Haitians try to recover and rebuild.
But consider this: President Obama, before even consulting with the president or prime minister of Haiti, decided to invest 100 million dollars in aid to Haiti. No other nation has pledge any where near that amount to Haiti. Mr. Obama deigned to send the Marines and the Army to Haiti with no authority from either the Haitian government or, more importantly, the Constitution.
One wonders if Mr. Obama would have pledged such an amount of money to a country affected by an earthquake is that country had been the Philippines, Albania or Mexico. We here at the Manor think not.
Your faithful correspondent is of the belief that Mr. Obama's over-reaction (massive amounts of aid are really the purview, in theory, of the United Nations) is due to two factors. The first is that Haiti is a poor and broken society that appears to be irreparable. Haiti is in the Caribbean, which, for better or worse, is often considered the US' pond.
This writer speculates that Mr. Obama will not only attempt to give aid to Haiti, but also fix Haiti. He will try to make Haiti into an effective and honest nation. And by doing so he will tie the United States to Haiti for at leat twenty years. In other words, he will make Haiti into a pseudo-colony. And do not be surprised if, within the next couple of years, you read in the newspaper that the government of Haiti appeals to the government of the US to be made a de jure territory of the US.
Finally, if you, the reader, decided to send some money to an aid organization to be used in Haiti, this writer would ask you to bypass the Clinton/Bush fund promoted by the President and the Red Cross. This writer asks you to investigate donating to the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities or World Vision simply because from those charities you get more bang for the buck.

Somebody Wakes Up
The ignorance of the slow incrementalism of bad ideas into a society and the average citizen's unthinking acceptance of the reassurances by the intelligentsia are greater corrosive elements to the soundness of a civilization than are attacks, violent or ideological, from without. The thin edger of the wedge, once it gets purchase into a fissure, is almost impossible to prevent from doing its work.
In Great Britain, for many years, the liberals, multi-culturalists, socialists and Islamo-philes, have been reassuring the average British subject that he has nothing to fear from the growing number of immigrants from Islamic nations or the radicalization of British Muslims. The idea was that British culture and society were much stronger than Islamic culture and that the Orcs would assimilate and become good and loyal Geordies and Cockneys and Scouses.
Well, the elites were wrong, and the average Brit has finally twigged that his neighborhood Muslim society may not be raising racing pigeons or arranging jumble sales to help out the needy:

-The European Model
A few years ago, during the Danish cartoonist Mohammed scrapple, it was not unusual to hear or read someone state that the Danes are a brave people, despite the fact that Denmark folded to the Germans during WW 2 like a piece of cheap rice paper.
Well, some things never change:

Being a Man in a World of Drones
As regular readers of these missives are well aware, this writer has long been on a campaign to educate about, and promote, the wearing of proper hats (not baseball caps or cricket caps except on the sporting field) by men. Be it known here, that while your faithful correspondent is of the opinion that hats with brims are really the best head wear for men in public, he will make allowances for the beret (among the arty, French and in trades where a brim is obstructive to one's work), the eight panel (aka "newsboy" ) and the Yorkshire (aka "sports car") caps.
Let us face the facts: a baseball cap on a grown man looks just damn silly, whether it is worn forwards, backwards or sideways, unless one is playing baseball, painting the house , or working a an Army mechanic fixing a real Jeep.
A proper hat on a man means that the man is a serious man. He is a man to be taken seriously. But only a man who knows how to wear a hat properly can be considered a serious man.
Consider this:
Big Hollywood » Blog Archive » The Way You Wear Your Hat – Listen Up, Hollywood, It’s Important
Or this:
Men's Hats: Fedoras, Porkpies and the Derby | The Art of Manliness
If you are a male reader of this pamphlet (this writer considers blogs as the modern form of pamphlet and flyer), and you do not have a proper hat, it would behoove you to get one; whether it be a fedora, pork pie, Stetson or derby.
This is the time for men who are men, and not drones controlled by women or the media or popular culture, to assert their manliness by wearing a man's hat (in the past only children did not wear hats). Men who are men and not drones, if they drink alcohol, drink beer, whiskey, rum, brandy or gin. They do not drink any mixed drink more complicated than whiskey and water, or a a martini. And men who smoke, chew or dip tobacco are not ashamed to do so, as long as they are discreet about expectorating unless in the presence of women or the clergy.
Real men do not trash talk and pose. They let their actions speak for them. For the past forty years the art of trash talking has become the norm, while actions come second. Consider rap and hip-hop. What is rap but a bunch of bragging and trash talk? What is hip-hop but the same in a softer mode?
This writer blames the current popularity of trash talk to the boxer formerly known as Cassius Clay. Mr. Clay was a wonderful boxer, but he was, during his career, mentally an adolescent. He was stuck in a period of life where what was once known as "chop fights" (the exchanging of verbal insults) was the norm. For the average male chop fights stopped in the ninth grade until Mr. Clay made it acceptable through the adoring reportage of sports writers. But since sports is the toy department of life, it can only be expected that sports writers admire childish things.
Consider this article concerning about the decorum and manliness of boxers of old:

Fashion Kills
There was a time when a proper hit man was a properly dressed man.
Back in the day the hit man was usually Irish, Italian or Jewish, and said hit man wore either a single breasted or double breasted suit and a proper hat, whether fedora or pork-pie.
Nowadays it seems that any damn slob wearing saggy pants and a baseball cap worm backwards or sideways can be a hit man. It just shows how standards have fallen.
Consider the following:
Killer Hector Quinones Plunges to His Death After His Pants Fall Down - Sphere News
The Latinization of crime has done none of us any damn good. The next thing you know hit men will be attacking their victims with serapes and and machetes.

Men in Hats -- Trilby Edition

To the right we have a small photograph of Frank Sinatra wearing a trilby hat. The trilby was a hat identified with Sinatra, as well as Rex Harrison, as well as the stereotypical New York executive in the 1950s and 1960s.
The hat was named after a character in the novel Trilby by Georges DuMaurier, from which also came the character and concept of Svengali. Trilby, in the novel, was a woman and she was known for wearing the style of hat that was basically a modified Peter Pan hat with a creased and dimpled brim.
Nowadays, among hipsters and the hat ignorant the style is known as the skinny brim or skimpy brim hat, which is an insult to the history of the hat.
This writer has never been a big fan of the trilby since is a bastard child between a cap and a proper hat. But it's better than nothing.
Deterioration and Resistance
This writer, being by nature a pessimist, usually sees the glass as neither half-empty nor half-full, but as polluted by the dictates of the political elite of the nation.. These self-perceived Solons see themselves as the wise men and women, almost Platonic philosopher-kings, dealing with, and governing, a populace, that is, at once, easily led and unruly, as well as being rather stupid and irresponsible. The stupid part of the equation has been a proven by the last few election cycles by the very fact that the voters have deigned to install these creatures into elective office.
To the majority of these elected aristocrats the citizens of this great nation are not so much a collection of individuals and free men and women as much as they are numbers, a collective beast that must be whipped into submission or children in need of "education" and "direction"; whenever the reader hears or reads a politician or "opinion-maker" appeal to the need for the government to "educate" or "direct" the people be sure that what is really meant is that they are attempting to take another chip away from your freedom. If we are lucky we'll have freedoms the size of a toothpick when once our freedoms were of the size of a might oak.
Consider just three matters that are being argued in Congress:
1.) The national health care scheme. What this amounts to is that you will be forced to, through governmental mandate, through your taxes, pay for abortions whether you are morally opposed to it or not. And that you will be forced to buy some sort of health insurance. If you do not do so, you will either be fined or jailed. In other words, you, as a purportedly free individual, will be taxed or charged for the very act of breathing. Unless of course, you have no money. In which case you will get a free ride on everyone else's back.
This racket is based on one thing and one thing only. Our elected leaders see the populace as children instead of adults. Their actions, like many other legislative actions by Congress over the past fifty years, have attempted to negate one of the traditional definitions of adulthood: personal responsibility and the the willingness, often complainingly, to suffer the consequences of not being responsible for one's actions. More and more the government has decided that it is responsible for the citizen and the citizen's welfare by acting as the parent.
We were once a nation of independent men and women in a nation that celebrated the rugged individual. Now, it seems, we are supposed to let Big Gov make our decisions for us and wait for our government issued Big Wheel to go to work with.
2.) Certain members of the United States Senate have been investigating the possibility of regulating the Internet and bloggers by holding bloggers to the same standards of libel as traditional print publications. This writer is the first to maintain that libel and the spreading of falsehoods is a bad thing. These things are sins. But your faithful correspondent also realizes that the blogosphere, as well as the Internet, is the new Wild West and he prefers it that way. The difference between the blogosphere and traditional media is that traditional media are 1.) money-making entities and if they could get away with it they would tell lies all the time 2.) The blogosphere is more of a conversation than it is a fact factory. 3.) The blogosphere is much more self-policing than are the traditional media ,i.e any statement is open to sniping by those who disagree.
If Internet conversations are restricted by libel laws it will not be long before private, oral conversations will be so regulated. In other words, if you say, during lunch, that your boss is an idiot, you may find yourself being sued by said boss assuming that he can prove that he is not an idiot, which is pretty unlikely.
3.) The discussion of the expansion of "hate speech" laws means that Big Gov will come down on one like a ton of bricks for saying yet another "naughty" word.
Here's the question: does one have the right to hate? Does one have the right to hate a group, an individual or a concept? Is one guaranteed by the Constitution to say what one feels or thinks? If not, what is the use of the Constitution? Where will it end?
The Grand Republic has been for all too long infested by termites that eat away and eat away and eat away from the inside while we have been led to believe that they are building. It will all collapse, not with a big bang, but a sigh, all too soon.
Consider this article from the English newspaper The Daily Mail. The English Greatest Generation finds itself what the Second World War was worth the blood, sweat and tears:
'This isn't the Britain we fought for,' say the 'unknown warriors' of WWII | Mail Online
There are three documents that made the United States: The Bible, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. All three deal, each in their own way, with the freedom of the individual and the responsibility of the individual, and the limits of government. Our beneficent masters seem to have jettisoned all three documents in fact, if not in word, and have replaced them with a combination of Bismarkian/Marxist amalgamation on the European model. In other words, the people we have elected to represent us seem to want the United States to become Scandinavian Europe without the sexy blond women.
So what is to be done? One word: Resist. Resist with your vote. Resist with your voice, Resist with your actions. If your elected representative is an enemy of your freedom hold them in contempt and let them know that you do. THEY are the servants. YOU are the master. You asked for a whiskey soda and they brought you a New Coke. They serve at your pleasure and they know what is good for you instead of following your directions. If you had a gardener who ignored your order to dig up a patch of tulips because he thought that to do so would ruin the look of your garden you would not hesitate to fire that gardener in a minute. Elected officials are supposed to be maintainers of our liberties, not creators of Niceville. Washington warned that governmental power was like fire; a useful servant and a dangerous master. Our leaders have been playing with fire and the citizens are the ones who have been burned
Get angry. Learn to hate those who would deny you the freedoms that so many generations of American have shed blood for. Learn to hate with the hot burning hate that Samuel Adams hated those who hated thoise who wanted to limit his freedom and plunder his purse. Don't say, when someone has been elected to represent you who you disagree with, "I disagree with him politically, but I wish him well." Instead say, "I hope he's a miserable failure. I wish the worst for for his political career and I hope that he is soon back working as an insurance agent."
Support candidates that support liberty as this man does:
YouTube - Congressional Candidate Lieutenant Colonel Allen West
This writer has been re-reading The Gulag Archipelago. It is a chilling and troubling book. Not only for the experiences of the Russian populace, but for the possibility, slowly, slowly, like water eroding granite, that the same thing may happen here. One day, while walking down the street, you may find someone yell out to you (someone you've never met), "Hey! Mike!" and when you stop and turn around to see who has called out, find yourself being bracketed by a couple of large men who grab your arms and escort you to a future form of Lubyanka. You'll ask, "What did I do?" And you'll be given no answer.

DUMB!
This is just plain stupid. The British government has always treated its soldiers badly unless said soldiers were officers. This story just goes to prove that they still treat their Tommies crappy. Why would any self respecting Limey join the British Army?

Any Backlash Yet?
This correspondent, in his last post, offered several instances of outrages against Christians perpetrated by Muslims in foreign nations that were apparently backlash against allegations of bad behavior by Christians. In none of the instances had it been proven, in fact, or by judicial decision, that the crimes were committed by Christians. But the Muslim majority assumed the worst against the Christian minority and lashed out in revenge.
Now, in Turkey, we have something that goes beyond backlash. We have a faction of the Turkish military planning the extermination of all Christians in Turkey.
Keep in mind two things when reading the story below:
1.) Turkey aspires to become part of the European Union and insists that it is a European nation and not an West Asian nation.
2.) Turkey attempted to wipe out all Armenians living within Turkey in 1915 and, even until this day, the government denies that the Turks perpetrated such a crime.
Now, let us face the facts. The only thing that is European about modern Turkey is the Hagia Sophia (formerly known as Saint Sophia's Cathedral), which, while built by the Christians of Asia Minor, has been a mosque since the 15th century. The Orcs pretend that the building is an example of Islamic art, but the only thing they have added to the edifice are minarets. Turkey was, before the Islamic invasion, a stalwart Christian nation called Byzantium. But forced conversions, exile and death resulted in Turkey becoming a Muslim nation and a backward nation
Also keep in mind that the Armenian genocide is a proven historical fact that Turkey denies ever took place. The very fact that a faction of the military and intelligentsia would think of exterminating Christians shows that Turkey has no place in the EU or NATO, for that matter.
Ask any Greek or Armenian what to think of the Turks and you will have a pretty good idea was the proper attitude toward them should be.

No Backlash?
As those who have the memory of a flea may recall, such organizations such as the Council of Islamic American Relations and the American Muslim Council cautioned Americans about the idea of backlash against Muslims after the terrorist act by the Muslim Major Nidal Hassen in which he killed 13 American soldiers or civilian employees at Fort Hood, Texas. These tools of Islamic nonsense assured us that such a backlash would not only be unChristian or unJewish, but unIslamic.
Well, some people and organizations lie for their own benefit, as is evinced by the following:
Egypt Muslims burn Christian shops: police
And the following item makes one wonder about the "religion of peace":
Priest Is Shot Dead in His Church in Russia - NYTimes.com
We all, in this great Republic, deal daily with with people who are neither Christian not Jewish. It's a likelihood that the guy you buy your six-pack of PBR at the local liquor store is a Buddhist, a Confucian or a filthy atheist. But one can be pretty much assume that one's clerk holds to the ideas and the ideals of the United States unless the clerk is a Muslim (and why would a Muslim sell booze to one since booze is an anathema to the average Muslim? It appears that money is more important to them than religion).
This writer has long held the opinion that Islam is incompatible with the ideals of the United States. Consider this:
Islam is not compatible with a republic

Sometimes You Just Want to Puke
As those in the know are well aware, this writer is a veteran of the United States Navy, that his father was a World War II veteran of the United States Marine Corps and that his great uncle was killed in World War I while serving in the United States Army in France. The ancestors of your faithful correspondent have served as soldiers or sailors in every major war this great nation has waged except the Mexican and Spanish-American Wars since the French and Indian War in the 18th century.
The Nibs have always believed in the American ideal as defined by the Founding Fathers, and during the past fifty years the Nibs have seen the American Ideal and character ruined.
Apparently, the enlightened of our cousins across the Atlantic have seen the same problem. The US and Great Britain have seen their nations ruined. Be afraid.

A Thought and a Couple of Links
It's been a bit more than a week since the shooting at Fort Hood perpetrated by Maj. Hasan. The Obama administration , the Department of Defense and the Army refuse to call this outrage an Islamic terrorist attack. This refusal on the part of the government and official military shows that we are being lead by men without chests.
But be that as it may, it should be noted that in every expression of disassociation from the act, and sympathy for the victims, every Islamic association that this writer heard or read warned against the American populace against "backlash" against Islamic-Americans. It has always been such with Islamic associations. A Muslim in the US does something bad and the organizations say that they are not at fault and that there should be no backlash. There is never a statement that the associations and the mosques will make it a point to educate Muslims about how to live peacefully in the US. They are like the parent with the wild eight year-old who refuse to discipline the brat after it has killed your cat; "Don't blame us. We didn't do it. And don't hold it against us. It's the kid's fault. But don't fault the kid because he's a wild child and you're a mean person if you even yell at us or our dear child."
Here's what Islamic associations and mosques in the United States should do if they want to be believed by the American populace. They should renounce the whole concept of Sharia law in the US, and they should teach a tolerance and even respect for the other religions in the US. They want tolerance from Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc., but they never return it. It's all a one way street with the Orcs, and the further that we, as a society, follow them down that road the harder it will be for us to turn the society back into a liberal (in the classic sense of the word) and Judeo-Christian society.
The road to socialism is much the same -- a one way street. For those readers who had the sense to read trash fiction during the 1960s/70s, there was a writer they remember named Dennis Wheatley. Wheatley wrote history, mystery novels, science fiction novels, occult novels and just novel novels. In the 1950s Wheatley wrote a piece that he hid in an urn at his house that was intended to be read by generations after his death. He died in 1977 and the essay was discovered a few years after his passing. Here is Wheatley's essay. Read it and weep:

The national character and culture have, during the past forty-five years, undergone a more rapidly accelerating coarsening and vulgarization. Examples of this regrettable trend are modern basketball (now a contact sport), Rap and hip-hop (there's nothing more romantic or entertaining than screeches about rape and cop shooting while being locked inside a bass drum), movies (Transformers an A movie?), television (The Simpsons, et al) and beer commercials.
At this time this writer will address beer commercials. The average beer commercial has something to do with either men acting like idiots or men trying to pick up attractive women. Most try to be humorous, abut usually end up being just stupid. Now, admittedly, the ingestion of too much beer at one sitting results, usually, in stupid behavior. But most people use beer as a beverage for relaxation or as a social lubricant. Brewers like to add taglines to their commercials that say; Drink Responsibly. Perhaps the brewers should advertise responsibly. The attached commercial for Miller High Life (the starter for a campaign that never came to fruition fro some reason) is an example of a beer commercial that attempted to go against the growing tide of the "Whaaa's uuuup?" nonsense that beer commercials have become.
